There are many ways to volunteer at RAH. We have volunteers working in our
office, patient care, extended care, special events, bereavement services, and in professional capacities.
OFFICE:
Answering phones, processing mailings,
writing thank you cards, filing, etc.
PATIENT CARE: Sit with a patient
to allow the caregiver to run errands, attend meetings, or keep appointments for their own care -- Hospice recognizes the
need for self care of caregivers to alleviate 'burn out'.
EXTENDED CARE: With several hours of additional
training, these select volunteers go the extra mile in offering to stay overnight or for large blocks of time to provide in-house
respite for caregivers or security for
patients living alone.
SPECIAL EVENTS: Volunteers form task forces for
each event which RAH hosts. The degree of time invested varies for each individual and for each event. Execution of each event
also requires many volunteers dividing the necessary tasks. For example, a group of ten volunteers may take two hour shifts,
two at a time, to run an information booth at a
community celebration.
BEREAVEMENT: With several hours of specialized
training, volunteers assist the Bereavement Coordinator in making contact with the family members who are working through
their first year of grief.
PROFESSIONAL:
Chaplain - Local clergy volunteer to serve as staff members available
for spiritual support to patients and their families
if requested.
Medical Director - RAH 'employs' two Medical Directors
who volunteer their time in attending monthly meetings and making themselves available to the patient care team for frequent
consultations to achieve optimum symptom management for RAH patients.
Physical Therapist - RAH 'employs' a physical
therapist who also volunteers her time to make home visits to patients for range of motion, teaching, and recommendations
relative to maximizing each individual's quality of life and activities of daily living.
Hair Stylist - We enjoy
the generosity of a volunteer beautician who will visit patients at home to provide a new cut or fresh look which can do a
lot to lift the patient's spirits.
Massage Therapist - Massage is one of several alternative therapies in use for
pain management. We utilize volunteer massage therapists upon request for home visitation.
Computer Technology Consultants
- Hardware and programming expertise is costly, yet RAH is fortunate to benefit from volunteer advice. This website was designed
by a volunteer, who also serves as webmaster.
Legal Services - Assistance to patients for wills and advance medical
directives preparation has been provided free of charge by local attorneys who are also trained
Hospice volunteers.
Board of Directors - All our Officers and Members
of the
Board of Directors are volunteers.
